Announcements    

The Daughters of the King - will not have a meeting in August.

The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) – will not have a formal meeting in August, however please read below for details on their August outing! 

Men’s Club – will not have a meeting in August.

A.M.E.N. Sunday – is August 1st.   Suggestions for the month: Cereal – Oatmeal, Malt-O-Meal, Cream of Wheat, Rice, and Boxed Cereal. You may also drop your items in the A.M.E.N. collection basket at the Parish Hall anytime during the week. 

ECW - Ladies are invited to join us for our summer trip to The University of Texas at Austin, on August 5, 2010.  We will be visiting exhibits at The Blanton Museum and at The Harry Ransom Center.  We will carpool and leave the church parking lot at 8:45 ~ the museum opens at 10.  There is no organized tour scheduled, everyone is welcome to roam and enjoy the exhibits at their leisure.  The Blanton has a cafe and gift shop for your enjoyment as well.  We can meet in the cafe at 11:30 for lunch and plan to leave Austin around 1 p.m.  If you are interested, please send me an e-mail (fran.mason@yahoo.com). 

 If you would like to volunteer to drive, please let me know.

Men’s Club Cook – is scheduled for Saturday, August 14th to benefit the Smithville Library.   Anyone that has wood for the BBQ may bring it on Friday or Saturday. 

Second Chance Emporium – St. James’ volunteers are asked to work beginning August 17th through August 21st with clean up on Monday, August 23rd.    Please contact Vera Zitterich or Jerri Frenzel. 

Supper Club – will be Friday, August 20th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Penny, Pete & Robin Senger, 348 South Jackson Street in La Grange. Co-hosting the event will be Suzanne and Al Artz, Jeannette Burger, Richard Dixon, and Vera and Danny Zitterich. 

Penny’s “Award Winning BBQ Chicken” will be served along with Danny Zee’s “Famous Beans.” Guests are invited to bring the side dish, salad, dessert, and / or beverage of your choice.  Tea and water will be provided.  Children are welcome and invited to bring their swimsuits and towel. Music will be provided by Ken Brothers.  A sign up sheet is posted in the Parish Hall and maps will be available if needed – the Sengler home is only a few blocks from the church.  Please RSVP to Penny at 968-8901 or sign up prior to the event.  

 

Community

La Grange Lunch Bag - LunchBag started up June 9th and runs until Aug. 6th if you are interested in volunteering; we’re still accepting donations but could use the volunteers as well. The distribution sites will be at St. Paul’s, AMEN, Swimming Pool and Rec. Center, five days a week from 11:30 am-1:00 pm. We’ll need volunteers at all locations throughout the summer so anyone that is interested can contact  www.lglunchbag.com

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group – 2nd Tuesday of every month at noon at the Monument Hill Nursing Center.  There is no charge for attending.  For more information contact Cindy at 979-968-3144. 

Hospice Brazos Valley Grief Support - First Steps - Meet others who have experienced the death of a loved one and share a meal.  Third Tuesday of each month at the Hospice Brazos Valley office 1048 N. Jefferson in La Grange 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Next meetings August 17th and September 21st. (No meeting in July)  All are welcome, the group is free and open to the public. Beverages provided, please bring a dish to share.
